Michelle Nixon Named 2006 SPBGMA Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year

February 6, 2006 (Nashville, TN) - Michelle Nixon was named Female Vocalist of the Year in the Traditional category by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA).  The awards show was held Sunday, February 5, 2006 at the Sheraton Music City Hotel.  

Michelle Nixon & Drive received a total of six  nominations including Vocal Group of the Year,  Bluegrass Album of the Year ("What More Should I Say?" and Song of the Year ("I Know Rain").  Nixon also received a nomination for Entertainer of the Year and fellow band member Adam Seale received a nomination for Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year.

Nixon stated after the Awards Show, "I was so thrilled and overcome with emotion that I forgot to thank so many people that have been supportive of our band.  I appreciate the award so much and especially want to thank all of the fans that support Michelle Nixon & Drive."

The band's current single "I Know Rain" from their Pinecastle Records album, "What More Should I Say?" is currently #24 on Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine's Top 30 Single chart. The album and single have also appeared on numerous other charts including the  Roots Music Report.
